GMO = Genetically modified organisms
Genes are the blueprints for every part of an
organism. Every plant and animal is different because of it’s genetic
material or genes. Genetic engineering is the process of modifying this
information mainly by artificially transferring the genes of one organism
into another.
i.e. animal genes going into plants, bacteria genes into
food crops to make them more resistant to insecticide.
This ‘cut & paste’ method changes the organism from it’s natural state into an altered, unpredictable organism.
